Der Kuss (1907-1908)

Der Kuss (The Kiss) by Gustav KLIMT (1862-1918), the great Austrian Symbolist painter, is perhaps the most important work of his ‘Golden Phase’.

Klimt’s early work was typical academic painting. But, in 1897, he was one of the founding members of the ‘Vienna Secession’: this painting school revolted against academic art and defended a highly decorative style.
