Entrance of the Forest Scenes
Entrance (Eintritt) is the first of the series of nine miniatures that make up Robert Schumann’s Forest Scenes (Waldszenen, Neun Stücke op. 82, 1848-1849), inspired by Heinrich Laube’s Jagtbrevier (Hunting Extracts). They reflect the Biedermeier sensibility which, according to historian James Sheehan, “took the fear and torment out of Romanticism, leaving in its place only some vaguely menacing motifs and exciting titillation.”
