Melusine is a figure of Celtic folklore and a feminine spirit or fairy. When Raymondin came across Melusine in a forest in France, he fell in love and proposed marriage. Melusine agreed to marry this young and handsome lord, but led one condition: that he must never enter her chamber a Saturday. After this, she gave birth to ten sons and erected a magnificient castle for her beloved husband. Nevertheless, Raymondin broke his promise, and saw Melusine naked in her bath with her body ended in a serpent’s tale. She forgave him, but when he called her a “snake” in front of his court, she took the form of a dragon and flew into the sky, never to return.
