The First 2 Verses of the Iliad

Sing the rage, goddess, of Achilles son of Peleus,
This destructive rage, that sent thousands of torments on the Achaeans(…)

Μῆνιν ἄειδε θεὰ Πηληϊάδεω Ἀχιλῆος
οὐλομένην, ἣ μυρί᾿ Ἀχαιοῖς ἄλγε᾿ ἔθηκε(…)

These are the two first verses of Homer’s Iliad, which relates Achilles’ rage when Agamemnon, the Great King of the Greeks (the Achaeans), takes the slave woman Briseis for himself. Because of this, Achilles will refuse to fight and help the Achaeans against the Trojans…
