Κρεῖττον σιωπᾶν ἐστιν ἢ λαλεῖν μάτην
“Better to keep silence than to speak inappropriately”
MENANDER (c. 342–291 BC), Monosticha or Sententiae, 290.
Menander, Greek dramatist from Athens, was the author of more than a hundred comedies. Until recently, all that was known of Menander were fragments and his moral maxims or monostichs, which were learned by Ancient Greek schoolboys.
